If you haven't already, you need to go download the Visual Studio 2008 hotfix rollup right now! This update fixed some of my biggest performance-related gripes with Studio 2008. It should really be on Windows Update.
The main reference I've found to it is on Scott Guthrie's blog (but the hotfix itself is on MS Connect here).
This is one you definitely don't want to miss.
